WRITTEN ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Level 1 Board Certified Haircolorist

To earn the Level 1 Board Certified Haircolorist digital badge, the candidate must complete a randomized 150-question Written Assessment, drawn from a 400-question bank, within a 180-minute time limit. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass. The exam assesses core competencies in haircolor theory, formulation, product chemistry, corrective techniques, and client communication.

CASE STUDY ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Level 2 Board Certified Haircolorist

To earn the Level 2 Board Certified Haircolorist digital badge, the candidate must have first passed the Level 1 Written Assessment. They must then complete five Case Study Assessments that evaluate their ability to analyze, formulate, and resolve complex haircolor scenarios. Each case is worth up to 32 points, with a maximum possible score of 160. A minimum of 128 points is required to pass.

Candidate responses are evaluated through a peer-review process. Answers are compared to model responses developed by a panel of Board Certified Haircolorists and Assessors. Each submission is independently reviewed and scored by three separate assessors to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment with professional standards.

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Level 3 Board Certified Haircolorist

To earn the Level 3 Board Certified Haircolorist digital badge, the candidate must have successfully completed the Level 1 Written Assessment and the Level 2 Case Study Assessments. The final requirement is passing the Performance Assessment, which evaluates hands-on skill and technical execution.

Candidates must demonstrate four distinct haircolor techniques: two predetermined techniques assigned in advance and two randomly selected on the day of the assessment. The assessment is scored out of a possible 134 points. To pass, a candidate must achieve a minimum score of 108, demonstrating precision, consistency, and professional-level application across all assigned techniques. This rigorous evaluation confirms mastery in both theory and practice, validating the candidate's readiness to represent the highest standard in professional haircoloring.
